What trauma can look like.

Trauma doesn’t show up the same way for everyone. It might follow a major life event like an accident or abuse, or it could come from ongoing stress, neglect, or grief. What matters is how it feels to you.

Signs can include:

  • Trouble sleeping, fatigue, or nightmares

  • Feeling tense, on edge, or easily startled

  • Avoiding certain places, people, or situations

  • Feeling disconnected, numb, or withdrawn

  • Digestive issues, headaches, or other physical symptoms

  • Difficulty concentrating or staying present

Your background, support system, personality, and beliefs all influence how you experience and respond to trauma. There is no single “right” way to react—and no need to compare your journey to anyone else’s. If you’re feeling the impact, your experience is real and valid.

Our counsellors work with you at your pace—whether you’re ready to process the event or need tools to feel more grounded first.

  • Trauma isn’t defined only by what happened—it’s about how the experience affected you. It can be thought of as an “emotional injury” that disrupts your sense of safety, stability, or ability to cope.

  • If symptoms are intense, long-lasting, or tied to a difficult event—especially if you’re avoiding reminders or feeling on high alert—trauma focused counselling can help. You don’t need a diagnosis to start.

  • Yes. There’s no waitlist, and fees are on a sliding scale so cost isn’t a barrier.
