At Calgary Counselling Centre we call our practicum placements internships. They provide psychology and social work graduate students the opportunity to gain knowledge and comprehensive counselling experience within a community-based counselling agency. Interns are assigned to a supervisor who will work with them over the course of eight months. Interns receive one hour of individual supervision and two hours of group supervision each week. Interns are invited to participate in all training and workshops at Calgary Counselling Centre during their Internship.
The eight-month internship terms begin in September, January and May of each year. Master’s students complete the following during their practicum:
Three days or 21 hours per week on site (unless your program has longer requirements)
Eight face-to-face counselling hours each week (each University program may have different requirements)
Weekly training seminars on Wednesdays either mornings from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. or afternoons from 1 to 4 p.m.
One shift per month in the call centre
One on-call shift per month at 4 p.m.
To be considered for the Graduate Internship Program, students must meet the following minimum admission requirements:

Two reference letters by professional or academic sources. The letters should comment on the motivation and ability to complete advanced training in counselling practice
