Talking about mental health isn’t always easy. Whether it’s our own challenges or those of a loved one, mental health conversations are often tough but essential to our well-being. This is where Drop the Mask YYC comes in.
Drop the Mask YYC is a masquerade gala but at its heart, it is much more than just a glamorous event — it’s a platform to break the stigma around mental health and encourage open dialogue. Many of us wear 'masks' every day, putting on a brave face when we say, "I'm fine," even when we’re struggling. The truth is, asking for help or talking about our mental health isn’t as daunting as we think, and it often leads to life-saving connections and support. This gala aims to remind us that we don’t have to navigate mental health challenges alone.
This year proceeds from the masquerade gala go directly to supporting Calgary Counselling Centre (CCC) and your participation in this event ensures that those facing mental health challenges have access to the right resources, at the right time.
Samantha Peck, the event organizer for Drop the Mask YYC, has chosen to support CCC because she recognizes the need for accessible mental health support. “I’m passionate about mental health advocacy and dropping stigmas and misunderstandings around mental health diagnoses, which is why supporting Calgary Counselling Centre for our 2024 event is so important to me” Sam shares, highlighting the personal commitment that fuels Drop the Mask YYC. This gala is more than an event; it’s a culmination of Sam’s dedication to creating a supportive and open community where everyone feels empowered to seek help without fear of judgment.
We rely on the generosity of people like Sam to support those in our community who are struggling with their mental health. Through subsidized counselling made possible by our donors, our clients are able to get help when they need it most, without waiting or worrying about the cost.
Drop the Mask YYC is more than a fundraising gala; it’s a statement that together, we can break down the barriers that prevent open conversations about mental health. By attending, you are enjoying a night of glamour and entertainment and also ensuring that the Calgary Counselling Centre can continue to provide vital support services to those in need.
