Calgary Counselling Centre’s Dr. Robbie Babins-Wagner was featured on the front page of the September 3, 2015 edition of the Calgary Herald.
The story titled ‘’Stress up Almost Two-fold as Calgarians Worry About jobs, Lagging Economy’
explored how the slumping Alberta economy was affecting both the unemployment rate and the mental health of Calgarians.
Intakes at the Centre were up 31 per cent in August when compared to August 2014. From January to August intakes were up 15.7 per cent when compared to the same time last year.
As quoted in the story, Babins-Wagner says August was particularly tough due to several Calgary companies issuing layoffs over summer.
“It’s just created a lot of doom and gloom. People are concerned, they’re distressed, and they’re panicking,” Babins-Wagner said in the story. “And they’re not all necessarily unemployed, they’re just worried about becoming unemployed.”
